On a momentous day, Monday, May 13, 2024, Poca High School celebrated a significant step in its evolution with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, symbolizing the inauguration of its new College and Career Ready STEM Lab and Media Center.
Just a year ago, Poca High embarked on a transformative journey with its new $1.5 million Major Improvement Project, a testament to the school's commitment to curriculum expansion and career-focused programming, awarded by the WVSBA. The Putnam County Board of Education also allocated $500,000 in the budget to assist with the escalating construction costs, further highlighting the importance of this project.
The 2,000-square-foot addition will not only enhance biomedical classrooms and multimedia space and expand the Poca High agriculture program but also open a world of new opportunities for our students. With these state-of-the-art facilities, our students will have more exposure to career fields and passions, inspiring them to reach for the stars.
Students, staff, Putnam County leadership, Board Members, and Poca Alumni gathered on Monday for the ceremony, which featured performances by the Poca High School Show Choir and a special commemoration.
Board members Bruce Knell, Rob Cunningham, Christan Wells, and Superintendent Hudson presented a memorial plaque to Poca High School. This plaque dedicates the new College and Career Ready STEM Lab and Media Center in commemoration of James Attison McClanahan, a beloved Poca High School educator. We honor his dedicated service to the students of Putnam County, a service that will always be remembered with deep respect and gratitude.
