Putnam County Schools Communication Regarding the 2017-2018 School Calendar Adjustments

Putnam County Schools reviewed options for making up instructional time lost during the 2017-2018 school year. Keeping the impact for students at the forefront and making an effort to minimize disruption to the students and families we serve, the following adjustments have been made:

The original 2017-2018 School Calendar listed the last date for students as May 29, 2018. The addition of four snow days moved this end date to Monday, June 4.

Lost instructional time will be made-up on the following days:

  • Friday, March 16 was scheduled as a Professional Development Day for employees. This will now become an instructional day for students.
  • April 2 through April 6 (Spring Break) will become five instructional days for students. Students absent during this time period will be issued excused absences as a result of family activity and/or vacations that may have been planned. This also includes school scheduled events resulting in students being absent.
  •  Schools will work with students and their families regarding days that may be missed during what was scheduled as Spring Break.
  • If no additional days are lost due to weather, the last day for students will be Monday, June 4th.

Using Friday, March 16 and April 2 through 6 (Spring Break) will maximize opportunities for lost instructional time prior to testing for all students including graduating seniors and students enrolled in college, Advance Placement (AP), and dual-credit courses.

  • June 5 through June 7 will be designated as (2) Professional Development Days for staff and (1) Planning Day. Thus, the last day of the employment term for all 200-day employees will be June 7, 2018. This adjustment provides for all 200-day employees to fulfill their required 200-day contract.
