Two Putnam First LEGO League Robotics Teams Place Top in the State!

Saturday, December 7, 2019, Fairmont State University hosted the 2019 FIRST LEGO League (FLL) West Virginia State Championship Tournaments.

The event recognized 36 teams from across the state, including two Putnam County teams competing in the four areas of Core values, innovation project, robot design, and the robot game. This year’s challenge was City Shaper, where teams had to consider “how cities and buildings grow, thrive and change,” including topics like accessibility, sustainability, and responsiveness to disasters.

The Putnam Pink Ladies of Hurricane Middle School took home first place & Champion’s Award! This is the highest award of the tournament and is determined by taking all four areas into equal consideration. They also received the highest score for robot performance, with 425 points. They will advance to the FIRST LEGO League World Festival in Detroit, April 29-May 2.

The third place for the Champion’s award went to The Clover STEMS of Winfield Middle School!

Congratulations to both Putnam FLL Teams on an outstanding season! What a tremendous accomplishment to place TOP HONORS in WV!
