Putnam County Schools Math Field Day Elementary & Middle School Division

On Thursday, February 13, 2020, 135 elementary and middle school math student rock stars traveled across Putnam County to Winfield Middle School to compete for top math honors at the 2020 Putnam County Schools Math Field Day, Elementary and Middle Division, “MATH ROCKS!”

This year event was themed around all that rocks and rolls! Math Field Day Coordinators (Shannon Henderson, Winfield Middle & Alison Warner, Rock Branch Elementary) and Putnam County Schools were able to start a Math Showcase for students and guests featuring Putnam’s very own, AND IN TRUE ROCK STAR FASHION, The Putnam Pink Ladies! The Putnam Pink Ladies are Hurricane Middle 8th grade students and an all-girl LEGO Robotics group who not only are WV CHAMPIONS but will be competing in the WORLD ROBOTICS COMPETITION in April (the only team to represent our state)! The Putnam Pink Ladies took time to showcase students and families what means to them outside the classroom and how math can be used to solve real-life problems! Thank you, Putnam Pink Ladies, representing your school and your county, as the inaugural Math Field Day Math Showcase presenters!

Thanks to all the Math Field Day VIPs, our teachers, administrators, and parents who came out to support their students! Thank you to the Math4life initiative and Roy Kuhl's, who were able to give our students a Math Merch Bag to help them commemorate their successes at this year’s Math Field Day event!  Lastly, thank you to the Church at the Depot for donating a treat to our wonderful math educators and event volunteers!
